If eating disorder behaviours are not recognized and addressed, they can lead to detrimental impacts on the physical and mental health.

If you recognize yourself in some of those behaviours or have witnessed someone you know engage in them, please reach out for help.

There's nothing to be ashamed of. An eating disorder is not a lifestyle choice. It is a serious medical condition and recovery IS possible! 💚

The holidays are just around the corner and this year, it definitely feels a lot different due to the pandemic. If you are feeling exhausted, angry, fed up, disappointed or sad, I feel and hear you. All the emotions you are feeling are very legitimate and valid.

On top of the current emotions you might be feeling, what can come along with this holiday season is anxiety and stress around food.

Perhaps you worry that you will overeat and "fall off the band wagon" or you’re dreading the sense of guilt you might feel if you eat certain foods. Situations like these can quickly make you feel out of control around food.

Therefore, I hope that the next blog article will help you better navigate this kind of situation.

Emotional eating is often an impulsive behavior which is done on auto-pilot mode.

➡️ Instead, try to give yourself permission to eat your emotions and try to do it mindfully. Being aware that you are eating to soothe an emotion and allowing yourself to do so will help you savor the foods more. It will also be easier to listen to your fullness cues.

➡️ In addition, making an intentional decision to find comfort food will help you feel less guilty about eating certain foods, thus breaking the vicious cycle of deprivation and binge-eating episodes mentioned earlier.

➡️ Identifying the emotions that you feel and digging to the root cause can also prove to be helpful. For example, you might find yourself always eating when you are stressed and overwhelmed at work. In this case, emotional eating might make you feel better temporarily but the issue might come back again.

Addressing the trigger in this case by finding ways to alleviate your workload, could be a better mechanism in making you feel better in the long term.

Repost @no.food.rules

It's Halloween today!! Try not to put any food rules around candies.
Managing candies without restriction and rules will help normalize candies. And because a food is not forbidden anymore, it becomes less appealing and you will want to eat less of the candies. Try it! 💚🎃

Carbs are often demonised because of the belief that they make you gain weight. Truth is, carbs are your number one source of energy! Your brain, your body and your soul need it.

Without enough carbs, you might feel tired, less concentrated, more irritable and have more cravings for sugar.

Do NOT hesitate to nourish yourself with carbs. 💚

Fad diets can be appealing when you want to lose weight and change your body size as they often promise to deliver dramatic results in a short amount of time.

However, to deliver these results, fad diets require dieters to engage in unsafe behaviors and rigid food rules such as cutting out entire food groups, restricting overall food intake considerably, or engaging in excessive physical activities.

As a result, diets can be a major contributing factor to the onset of an eating disorder.

Your body is the best guide to tell you  what, when and how much food to eat, not a diet!

We can help you better tune in with your body signals and eat more intuitively. Feel free to contact us to help you throughout your journey 💚

Eating disorders not only affect your physical and psychological health. They also impact your social life.

For instance, you might feel that you should not eat certain "bad" foods in front of other people or that you should eat less than what you really need and want when in public.

You might fear attending events with food because you think you won't be able to control your food intake. These feelings and behaviors take a toll on your daily life.

Remember that the food police in your head should not impact your relationships with others and take over your life. You are allowed to have fun and to enjoy the food you eat with friends and family. 💚
